How did I end up with Stains and Marks on my Natural sandstone paving Your Stone flags may have been Spot Bedded also known as Dab laying and is a way some people use when laying flagstone paving, It consists generally of 5 to 6 spots of cement placed one on each corner and maybe a couple in the centre and the flagstone is layed on top . The cavity below the slab can allow surface water to build up and subsidence or instability to occur. The gap below could make them more fragile and break when put under any stress or weight. Damp Patches may arise as the cement can act as a wick. and if using sea sand can stain the stone as in picture. Small creatures such as ants mice and insects like to burrow and can cause a lot of movement under the flagstone. It may be cheaper to have them layed on a full soli
Advice is to just check with the person laying the flagstones which method he is going to use. /
